A friend is loyal. He is your ally and you will find him standing beside you on the worst of days, even when doing so is difficult for him. His loyalty should not, however, be taken as blind agreement.
A loyal friend demonstrates his trustworthiness by telling the truth. If you are in the wrong, it is his responsibility to do whatever he can, in whichever manner it will be best received, to facilitate the opening of your consciousness so you may honestly embrace the situation before you.
A great friend knows you well enough to do this with grace, love and ease, so you come to your realizations on your own. When we are in pain, it's as though we have entered a long tunnel and for much of our journey in the tunnel, it seems we are alone in the darkness, but a true friend is there with us, just on the outside of the tunnel wall, knocking and calling to us, reminding us we are not alone and assuring us he will be there at the end of the tunnel to welcome us into the light of a new day.
This is the strength of character of someone who truly loves us. If you have even one of these in your life, express your gratitude for him. It is one of the greatest gifts of life.
When the opportunity presents itself to offer this precious gift to someone else, do it! It will enrich your life knowing you were instrumental in easing someone's pain, but even better, you taught someone to cultivate joy from sorrow, love from heartbreak.
Love being all that remains, train yourself to focus on the love, while you're in the difficulty and you will transcend the circumstances of your life, unscathed and in joy.
